Set within Canberra's New Acton precinct, Raspberry Jam is a bold and expressive reimagining of a 160-square-metre apartment for a family of three. The renovation rejects restraint in favour of atmosphere, drama, and sensory delight.

The apartment had strong architectural foundations; high ceilings, Venetian-rendered surfaces, and full-height pivot doors were offset by a neutral palette that felt at odds with the family’s creative, vibrant lives. Their brief was clear: no white, no minimalism and plenty of colour. They wanted a home that felt rich, layered, and unapologetically personal, a space that could showcase a lifetime’s collection of art, books, and furniture.

Drawing inspiration from diverse influences - India’s colour and chaos, New York’s urbane edge, and Singapore’s compact practicality, the design immerses the senses in saturated tones and tactile finishes. Blues, greens and deep rose - drawn from the clients’ artwork and wardrobe - shift in mood from one room to the next.

The once-awkward entry now sets the tone with raspberry-painted joinery, burl veneer and bronzed mirror. The kitchen retains its original stone and timber veneer, refined with new appliances and additional detailing for warmth and cohesion. A third bedroom becomes a library and guest retreat wrapped in green joinery and geometric wallpaper. The main bedroom is transformed into a calm retreat with patterned wallpaper, Bordeaux coloured carpet, and a soft internal curtain offering privacy to the ensuite.

Lighting plays a crucial role in shaping mood, sculptural pendants, wall sconces and lamps replace harsh downlights. Bathrooms are refreshed rather than rebuilt, demonstrating how surface and detailing alone can be transformative.

Raspberry Jam celebrates colour, craft and individuality - a sophisticated yet playful home that reflects its owners’ spirit and the joy of living boldly.
