Perched on a hill and surrounded by native bushland, House on a Hill is a bold yet welcoming family home inspired by mid-century Palm Springs style, reinterpreted with a contemporary Australian lens. Designed for a busy family of five, the interiors balance spaces for connection and gathering with moments of privacy and retreat.
A clean, architectural approach underpins the design - robust yet warm, refined yet unpretentious. Burnished concrete floors and internal limestone brick walls provide a grounded, tactile base, while timber panelling and soft curves in the joinery offer warmth and subtle mid-century references. A limited palette of natural finishes - Blackbutt timber, terrazzo, stone - was chosen for their durability and ability to patina gracefully over time. Colour is used confidently and playfully, reflecting the clients’ love of blue and personalising each space for family members. The expansive kitchen is the heart of the home designed not just for cooking, but for hosting, gathering, and daily family life. Bathrooms bring a touch of luxury with marble, terrazzo, and tactile finishes. Throughout, the design balances style with practicality — elegant, functional, and deeply connected to both its landscape and the people who live there. |
